It’s the middle of the week and the pressure is on. What have I not accomplished on Monday and Tuesday? What is on for Thursday and Friday? It is called hump day for a reason. If you don’t get your priorities done from Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday feels like it’s all uphill. If you stay focused and make progress, you are gliding down into Thursday. If not, well that happens more than not, right?
How do you stay on track? One thing I do is use a timer. Set a timer whenever you go on social media, start writing your blog, start your phone calls, read email, or most things. When you limit the activities that take you down the rabbit hole, you will see a real difference in your productivity! You need to decide how important an activity is to determine how much time you give it. Yes, there will be times when the beep starts and you are not finished, then you get to decide if you will set more time or stop. This is very powerful in teaching how to prioritize and how to make decisions.
I use the Pampered Chef timer because it goes with me wherever I go with a clip that I can attach to my clothes. It also easily resets. You could use your phone but aren’t you already using that for enough?
There are so many things that can help us improve our effectiveness. The question is what are you doing?
Remember: EFFICIENT is doing things right. EFFECTIVE is doing the right thing. Starting your day with the right thing, like making prospect calls, writing a proposal, or writing your blog, is much more important than lining up the papers on your desk.
Action: Find the timer you will use and put it on your desk right now.
Got to go. I only have 14 minutes to get this blog done and posted!
